MEET Dr. Fernanda FreITAS

Captain of Healthy Smiles

Every great crew needs a captain, and at Anchored Smiles, Dr. Fernanda Freitas is at the helm — helping little smiles navigate their way toward a lifetime of healthy, confident smiles.

With more than 20 years of clinical experience, Dr. Fernanda has dedicated her career to caring for infants, children, teens, and patients with special healthcare needs. She believes a trip to the dentist should be more than just taking care of teeth. It should be a positive experience where every child feels safe, understood, and celebrated.

Dr. Fernanda brings an impressive depth of experience aboard the Anchored Smiles crew. Throughout her career, she has served as a Dental Director, led multidisciplinary teams, and developed clinical programs focused on improving access to quality oral healthcare.

Her passion for dentistry also extends to teaching the next generation. Dr. Fernanda has served as a clinical preceptor for Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She also completed the Medical Leadership Program through the Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care, further developing her expertise in healthcare leadership, team development, and patient-centered care.

But what matters most to Dr. Fernanda is the child sitting in her chair.

She takes the time to build trust, answer questions, ease worries, and help children feel comfortable at the dentist. Prevention and education are a big part of her approach because she wants parents to feel just as confident about their child's dental care as their child feels comfortable receiving it.

Dr. Fernanda is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, allowing her to welcome and communicate with families from many different backgrounds.

When she's not captaining the Anchored Smiles crew, Dr. Fernanda enjoys life in the Palm Coast community with her husband and three children, along with the family's dogs and cat. She loves sewing, crafts, and creative projects — hobbies that fit perfectly with the patience, creativity, and attention to detail she brings to pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Fernanda can't wait to welcome your family aboard Anchored Smiles and help your child's smile stay on course for a lifetime.

Why Choose a Pediatric Dentist?

As a parent, ensuring the health and well-being of your child is a top priority. One crucial aspect of their overall health is their dental care. While family dentists and general dentists offer comprehensive services, there are distinct benefits to choosing a pediatric dentist for your child's dental needs.

Specialized Training & Expertise

Pediatric dentists undergo additional years of specialized training focused specifically on treating infants, children, and adolescents. This specialized education equips them with a deep understanding of child psychology, growth and development, and pediatric oral health needs.

Child-Friendly Environment

Pediatric dental offices are designed with children in mind, featuring bright colors, playful décor, and kid-friendly amenities. These environments help alleviate anxiety and fear often associated with dental visits, making the experience more comfortable and enjoyable for young patients.

Tailored Approach to Treatment

Pediatric dentists utilize techniques and tools specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of children. They are skilled in communicating with young patients at their level, using age-appropriate language and explanations to help them understand the importance of oral hygiene and dental care.

First Time Expectations

We know that a first trip to the dentist is a big milestone for both you and your child! Our goal is to make their introduction to dental care completely positive, safe, and fun. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly team and given a tour of our kid-friendly office to help your little one feel right at home. We never rush our appointments; instead, we take the time to let your child explore the dental chair, meet our tools, and get comfortable with us at their own pace. Depending on their age and comfort level, the first visit typically includes a gentle cleaning, a comprehensive exam, and an open conversation about your child's growth and dental milestones.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Services Do You Provide?

We offer a comprehensive range of pediatric dental care designed specifically for growing smiles! Our services include gentle checkups and cleanings, preventive care (like sealants and fluoride treatments), tooth-colored fillings, specialized pediatric restorations, and emergency care. Our team provides a fun, supportive environment for every stage of childhood.

  • When Should My Baby First See A Pediatric Dentist?

Dental care can begin before the first tooth ever appears! At Anchored Smiles, we welcome babies from birth and encourage families to reach out early—especially when there are concerns with breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, latch, or oral development.

Dr. Freitas can evaluate your baby’s mouth, oral structures, and frenums (lip and tongue attachments) and work collaboratively with your lactation consultant and other healthcare providers when appropriate.

Early visits also give parents an opportunity to ask questions about feeding, oral development, teething, pacifier habits, and caring for those first little teeth when they arrive.

If you or your lactation consultant has concerns about your baby’s latch, feeding, or a possible tongue- or lip-tie, you don’t have to wait for the first tooth to schedule a visit. There are no restrictions for special needs.

Healthy little smiles can start from the very beginning.

  • Can You Help With a Dental Emergency?

Yes! Accidents happen, especially with active kids! If your child is experiencing a severe toothache, has a damaged tooth, or has knocked out a tooth during play, please call us right away. We prioritize pediatric emergencies and do everything possible to schedule a same-day appointment so we can soothe their discomfort and restore their happy smile.

  • How Do I Schedule an Appointment?

Scheduling is simple! You can give our office a call or request an appointment online. Our friendly front-desk team will help you find a convenient time that fits around school and family schedules. We can’t wait to welcome your family to our practice!

  • My Child Has Special Needs. Can You Accommodate Them?

Absolutely. At Anchored Smiles, we believe every child deserves a dental experience that meets them where they are. We are a Certified Autism Welcome Office

We welcome children with autism, ADHD, sensory sensitivities, developmental differences, anxiety, and other special healthcare needs. Our team takes the time to learn about your child, including their communication style, sensory preferences, triggers, comfort items, and what has worked well for them in the past.

Some children may benefit from a quieter appointment time, extra time to become familiar with our office, a gradual introduction to the dental chair and instruments, or simply a little more patience and flexibility. We are happy to work with you to help make your child's visit as comfortable and positive as possible.

When scheduling, please let our team know about any accommodations that may help your child. You know your child best, and we want you to be part of creating a dental experience that works for them.

    Every smile belongs here.
